Building a reputation across functions

Marketing, medical and supply chain are watching too

Your manager is not the only person forming a view of you.

The teams behind the field remember which reps make their work easier, and which reps only call when they need something. When a senior role opens, those opinions are asked for more often than reps realise.

How to build a reputation across functions:

  • Marketing: bring back what doctors actually say about the message, good and bad.
  • Medical affairs: send clean, complete requests with the doctor's exact question.
  • Supply chain: warn early when pharmacies report a product is short.
  • Safety team: report side effects fully and on time, every time.
  • Sales operations: keep your call data clean, so their reports are right.
  • Trade team: share what pharmacists say about distributor service.

None of this takes much time. It mostly takes the habit of thinking about the person who receives your work.

The rep who only calls other teams for a favour gets the favour once. The rep who helps them first gets it every time.

“The people who decide your next role are not only in sales.”
