A hiring manager does not remember your adjectives. He remembers your examples.
I have interviewed many candidates for rep roles. Most prepare answers about themselves: hard-working, a people person, loves challenges. The ones who stand out prepare real stories from the field.
Three moments I listen for:
- A real call.
- "Tell me about a doctor who said no."
- I want a specific doctor type, what you did next, and what you learned.
- Numbers you can explain.
- "My territory grew. This is what I changed to get there."
- I want to see that you know your results and the actions behind them.
- Your question back.
- "What does a strong first year look like in this role?"
- That tells me you are planning to deliver, not only to be hired.
If you are new to the industry, use examples from any role where you persuaded someone, handled rejection or hit a target. The shape matters more than the setting.
“A hiring manager does not hire adjectives. He hires examples.”
