Staying a rep, on purpose

A serious career, not a waiting room

Not every strong rep has to become a manager.

The field often treats the rep role as a step you should leave as quickly as possible. Yet some of the most respected people in any sales team are the ones who chose to stay in the field.

  • What a career rep looks like:
  • Trusted by doctors, sometimes over many years.
  • Expert in one therapy area, at a depth few people reach.
  • A mentor to every new rep who joins.
  • What keeps it a career:
  • Keep learning every cycle, or the choice slowly becomes drift.
  • Tell your manager it is a choice, so it is treated as one.
  • Build depth, not just years.

There is one honest test. Are you staying because you want this work, or because you stopped trying for something else? Only the first one is a career.

“Staying a rep is a career when you choose it. It is a waiting room when you drift into it.”
