The rule of one ask

One request per call, every call

Ask a doctor for four things and you will usually get none of them.

In my experience, reps who ask for everything in one call leave with a polite smile and no commitment. The doctor cannot say yes to four requests in three minutes, so he says yes to nothing.

The rule I give every new rep is simple: one call, one ask.

  • Decide it in the car, before you walk in.
  • Make it small, specific and easy to check.
  • Log it in your call note, so next visit starts from it.
  • When he says yes, stop. Thank him and leave the rest for next time.

The rest of your messages are not lost. They are the next call's ask.

“One clear ask gets an answer. Four asks get a polite smile.”
