"I will ask our medical team, Doctor" can be the strongest sentence in your call. Or the weakest.
It depends entirely on what happens next. Many reps say it, then the question disappears into a busy week, and the doctor learns that your promises have no follow-through.
The eight steps I train:
- 1. The question: the doctor asks something beyond your approved material.
- 2. Pause. Do not guess. A wrong answer costs more than no answer.
- 3. Say it plainly: "Doctor, I want you to have an exact answer. Our medical team can give it."
- 4. Capture his words on your tablet, exactly as he asked.
- 5. Send it today, before the day ends.
- 6. Medical replies to him directly, not through you.
- 7. Close the loop next visit: "Did you receive the reply, Doctor?"
- 8. Trust earned. Next time he has a question, he asks you first.
Steps five and seven are where most reps fall down. Sending it the same day and checking it arrived are what turn a handover into trust.
“You do not need to know every answer. You need to know who does, and follow through.”
